America's Cup Trophy Comes to Newport, RI!

(Newport, RI) Around 0900 Thursday, July 1st, downtown Newport was bustling with yachting enthusiasts.  The America's Cup was finally coming home!  The Cup arrived on Banister's wharf around 0930 and was greeted by an excited crowd all eager to catch a glimpse of the trophy that has been such an integral part of Newport, Rhode Island, and the entire sailing community's history.

This past February USA Team BMW Oracle won back the America's Cup and has now been given the task to choose a location, among other things, for the next race.  Newporters, Rhode Islanders, and many others have launched a campaign to bring The Cup back to Newport where the races were once held for 132 consecutive years.  Captain Kent Dresser, President and Founder of Confident Captain/Ocean Pros summarized it best by saying "Just hoping that the America's Cup races will come back to Newport isn't enough. Newporters, Rhode Islanders, and all folks who appreciate Newport as the Sailing Capital of America need to voice their support and desire to see the America's Cup return home to Newport."  For those who feel passionately about bringing The Cup back to Newport, we suggest spreading the word through social networking medias, attending industry events supporting the cause, and inform and motivate your friends and family to do the same.

July 1st was certainly a special day in Newport and we hope that everyone got a chance to see this incredible trophy that represents such a rich history for yacht racing and a passion for the sport of sailing.  Let's bring The Cup back to Newport!
